Family Will & Legacy Planning Workshop at The Pavilion | August 25

Planning for the future can help provide greater confidence for you and your family. On Tuesday, August 25 at 5:00 PM, area residents are invited to attend the Family Will & Legacy Planning Workshop in Marion, Illinois. This free, in-person educational workshop is designed especially for adults age 50 and older who want to learn more about estate planning, wills, trusts, probate, charitable giving, and strategies that may help protect the legacy they have worked hard to build.

The Family Will & Legacy Planning Workshop will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about important estate planning topics in an approachable setting. Estate planning is not only for extremely wealthy families. Individuals at many different income and asset levels can benefit from understanding how an estate plan works and what steps may help make the transfer of property and assets easier for loved ones.

Whether you’re approaching retirement, already retired, or simply beginning to think more seriously about your family’s future, this workshop offers valuable educational information to help you better understand the estate planning process.

What You’ll Learn at the Family Will & Legacy Planning Workshop

The Family Will & Legacy Planning Workshop will cover several important subjects that can affect individuals and families as they prepare for the future.

One of the primary topics will be who needs estate planning. A common misconception is that estate planning is only necessary for people with significant wealth. During the workshop, attendees will learn why estate planning may be important for many families and how having a plan can help provide greater clarity about their wishes.

Another major topic will be probate. The workshop will discuss why some estates may enter probate and introduce attendees to planning considerations that may help them better understand the process. Learning about probate before it becomes an issue can help individuals ask better questions when working with qualified financial, tax, and legal professionals.

Learn About Wills vs. Trusts

Wills and trusts are two terms frequently associated with estate planning, but understanding the differences between them can sometimes be confusing.

During the Family Will & Legacy Planning Workshop, attendees will learn more about wills and trusts and how these estate planning tools can serve different purposes. The presentation is designed to help participants become better informed about the options that may be available when developing an estate plan.

Understanding these differences can be especially important for people who want to make their wishes clear and reduce uncertainty for their families. While everyone’s circumstances are different, becoming educated about estate planning tools can make conversations with an attorney, financial professional, or tax professional more productive.

Discover the Living Benefits of Estate Planning

Estate planning isn’t only about determining what happens to assets after death. The workshop will also explore living benefits and ways planning can be useful during a person’s lifetime.

This portion of the presentation can help attendees develop a broader understanding of estate planning and why preparing in advance may be valuable throughout retirement.

For adults age 50 and older, these conversations can become increasingly important as retirement plans, family circumstances, property, charitable goals, and other priorities change over time.

Estate Planning and Charitable Giving

The Family Will & Legacy Planning Workshop will also discuss charitable giving and how estate planning can play a role in supporting organizations and causes that matter to you.

For individuals who want charitable giving to become part of their legacy, understanding the available planning considerations can help them have more informed conversations with qualified professionals. The workshop will introduce attendees to this topic and explain why charitable planning may be worth considering as part of a broader estate plan.

Meet the Workshop Hosts

The workshop will feature John Zeidler, CFP®, CPA, MSA, and Tim Daniels, Estate Attorney.
